Welcome (back) to CdnStudio!
CdnStudio is Canada’s first virtual rehearsal hall, envisioned by Sarah Garton Stanley, created with Joel Adria in 2015, and was developed with the team at SpiderWebShow Performance. In the wake of COVID-19, we are proud to relaunch CdnStudio as a space for you to rehearse, experiment, and create with your collaborators across distance.
For now, we are offering 30, 60, or 90 minute sessions in CdnStudio and taking bookings until Friday April 10th. Please note: you will have to fill out a rental form each time you’d like to use CdnStudio.
For now, CdnStudio rentals are offered for free. If you have the means, please consider donating to SWS Performance so we can offer expanded services associated with CdnStudio! Suggested donation is $5/per hour.
Because CdnStudio is currently in BETA, we appreciate your patience as we work out the bugs. Please write to us at cdnstudio@spiderwebshow.ca if you’d like to share your work or get in touch with us!
CdnStudio is an online ‘room’ that uses internet technology to bring collaborators from across Canada together. This digital tool takes separate video streams and blends them together in real time, allowing users to see and hear each other in the same digital ‘space’.
Our goal is for CdnStudio to use every-day technologies so to use it all you need is a laptop, webcam, headphones, blank wall, and a high speed internet connection. We are using non-proprietary technologies so that all artists can access CdnStudio.
The first demonstration of this technology was presented on a closed network at the LMDA Conference at Portland State University in July 2016. We continued development of the next iteration of CdnStudio while in Residence with Queen’s University’s Stage and Screen Department. Our residency and office is situated at The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts where we plan to continue to develop CdnStudio.
CdnStudio was developed thanks to the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) Community Investment Program. CdnStudio acknowledges the LMDA Bly Creative Capacity Grant for initial development.
