Jan Selman

Jan Selman is a theatre director and professor of Drama at the University of Alberta. Her current work includes projects in alliance with interdisciplinary research groups and community-based artists in Kenya. Young Cities Dialogues (see YouTube, Participatory Theatre in Mombasa) uses interactive theatre to consult with youth about youth issues in rapidly urbanizing Kenya. Telling Old Stories in New Ways works on using and adapting resonant traditional stories to address current pressing issues, with a focus on democracy building and gender-based issues.
